Sunday AM Service - Mary Has Chosen The Good Part

4/3/2022

Text: Luke 10:38-42

Luke 10:38-42 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 42 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

A. Martha

  1. There is a huge difference between religion and relationship with Jesus

  2. Religion is so busy it rarely takes time to sit at the feet of Jesus

  3. Mary and Martha contrast those operating in religious activity and those drawing closer to Jesus

  4. Martha (RELIGION) was "cumbered about much serving," - Religion is busy serving a system

  5. She speaks to the Lord Petulantly because she didn't really understand who Jesus was as many in the church don't today

  6. Martha wanted Mary to "help her" - Religious systems always seek "help!" They want to get people away from true communion with the Lord Jesus Christ!

  7. Jesus didn't rebuke Martha for her works - He KNOWS OUR WORKS! We are called to SERVE and to WORK for the Kingdom of God!

  8. Faith without works is dead - if one is truly saved they will serve! And work for GOD

  9. The issue isn't the works, it's the motive - "cumbered about MUCH serving"

  10. Martha's focus was on the serving; Mary's was on Christ!

Mary

  1. Sat at Jesus feet - humility, abiding, resting

  2. Heard his word - listening/communion

  3. We are called to REST then we are ready to SERVE

  4. We are called to LISTEN then we are ready to SPEAK

  5. We are called to ABIDE then we will BEAR FRUIT!

  6. We are called to COMMUNE then we will not be TROUBLED ("careful and troubled about many things)

  7. We are called to DRAW NEAR to God for then he will DRAW NEAR TO US! (REPENTANCE)

  8. Mary CHOSE - This is a CHOICE we make, God cannot make it for us! He does not automatically draw near to US! We draw near by FAITH

  9. ONE THING IS NEEDFUL in the church - JESUS!

  10. The GOOD PART is what is needful! Or we perish in this HOUR!

THE GOOD PART

REST - Psalms 37:7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass

Hebrews 4:9-11 - There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

LISTEN - 2248 Times in KJV "HEAR"

Proverbs 1:5 - A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

Rev. 3:17 - I COUNSEL you to buy of me GOLD TRIED in the FIRE

To the churches - "HEAR" what the spirit sayeth to the Churches

ABIDE - John 15:1-4 - I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

COMMUNE (LISTEN) - 1 Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowships hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

REPENT (DRAW NEAR) - Hebrews 10:22 (KJV) Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Hebrews 7:19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded

Matthew 24:6 - And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
