Sunday PM Service - The Priestly Order Of Aaron Part 2 - The Cleansing By The Water Of The Word -12/12/2021
Text: Leviticus 8:1-6; Exodus 28:1, 29:4
Leviticus 8:5 shows Moses declaring "This is the thing which the Lord commanded to be done" - (Leviticus 9:23-24 - The glory don't appear without TOTAL obedience to the WORLD - The SPIRIT AND THE WORD AGREE)
God can bear weakness and even ignorance that is not willful; He cannot bear neglect and Disobedience nor sanction it with his presence! The cross is the message of the WORLD! The word is the story of the CROSS!
The washing of the priests represented the sublime purity of Jesus - Hebrews 7:26 - Holy, Harmless, Undefiled, Seperate from sinners - Aaron and his sons were sinners
Christ was not in contrast
There are three priesthoods mentioned in the Old Covenant
A. The Aaronic priesthood - Exodus 28-29, 39-40, Leviticus 8-10 had a start and an ending yet a type of Christ
B. The Zadok priesthood - In 1 Chronicles 16:39 Zadok is named as the leader of the priests who served "before the tabernacle of the Lord at the high place that was at Gibeon" - he served David and Solomon in building the temple - had
C. The Melchizedek priesthood - Genesis 14, Hebrews 10:4, Psalms 110:4 - Had no start and has no ending in Christ
6. To understand the Zadok and Melchizedek priesthoods one must understand the original priesthood of the tabernacle
7. 7. All priests including Aaron the great high priest were all:
A. Were called by God - Exodus 28:1
B. Were to be cleansed - Exodus 29:4
C. Were to be clothed - Exodus 29:5-6
D. Were to be consecrated - Exodus 29:9
E. Were to be commissioned - Leviticus
F. Were to be compassionate- Hebrew 5:1-3
8. In Exodus 25-30 God gave Moses the instructions of the priesthood in the mount relating to the CALL; In Exodus 39 these things were carried out; Leviticus 8-10 gives the COMMISSION and CONSECRATION of the priest
9. The book of Leviticus has three things as its subject relating to the tabernacle of Moses:
A. The sacrifices (Five Levitical Offerings)
B. A priest
C. A place of worship
10. The sinner needs a sacrifice, the worshipper believer needs a priest - Christ is BOTH!
11. Sacrifice IS THE FOUNDATION FOR ALL PRIESTLY MINISTRY! - Leviticus 8-2 - ALL POINT TO CHRIST AND CHRIST ALONE!
Leviticus 10:8-11 speaks of regulations and statutes that God ordained the priests to walk in
12. These were to put a difference between the HOLY and the UNHOLY, the UNCLEAN and the CLEAN
13. Without a proper understanding of the cross it is IMPOSSIBLE to discern the difference (Galatians 2:20-21 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.)
14. The cleansed priest was ordained by God to TEACH the law of Moses to Israel; the ordained believer TO the five fold ministry gift has been called to do the same (Ephesians 4:11-12 and he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some evangelists; and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ)
The Cleansing of the Priests
They were to be washed with water - Speaks of the brazen laver - the word of God. John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Psalm 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word.
This speaks of believers - No unsaved man can be a true spiritual priest unto God!
Water is a type of the word of God
the word is given as:
A. A light unto our path
B. Instruction for doctrine
C. To keep us sanctified and walk pure
D. For the equipping of the saints and others
E. To feed us daily
F. Christ is the WORD incarnate! He has given us his written word that speaks of him - the SPITIR and the word agree
5. This washing was done in PUBLIC - Those who speak PUBLICALLY NEED TO BE SPEAKING THE WORD OF GOD! Galatians 1:9-10 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Isaiah 8:20 - To the law and to the testimony: If they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them
6. When commissioning the priests notice that Leviticus tells us that God's glory APPEARED to Israel at the tabernacle
7. That glory would NOT HAVE appeared had not Moses done "The thing which the Lord commanded TO be done!"
