Wednesday Bible Study - Notes - Lesson 42 - The Doctrine of Babylon - P2 - Worship of Mary

TEXT:

Revelation 2:24 24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.

Revelation 17:1-5 1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Genesis 11:1-9 1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

III. Babylonian Roots and Dogma

  1. Damascus, Bishop of the Christian church at Rome, was then elected to the office of Supreme Pontiff,

  2. He had been bishop for twelve years, having been made such in 366 A.D. through the influence of the monks of Mount Carmel, a college of the Babylonian religion originally founded by the priests of Jezebel and continued to this day in connection with Rome

  3. So, in 378 AD, the Babylonian system of religion became part of Christendom, for the bishop of Rome, who later became the supreme head of the organized Church, was already Supreme Pontiff, the rites of Babylon began to come to the front.

  4. The worship of the Roman Church became Babylonish, and under him the heathen temples were restored and beautiful and the rituals established.

  5. This, the corrupt religious system under the figure of a woman with a golden cup in her hand, making all nations drunk with her fornication, is called by God "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT."

VII. The Babylonian Roots In Thyatira

The Catholic Church

  1. Nicolatianism - Conquerors of the Laity

  2. Balaamism - Conqueror and Destroyer of the People, as a false prophet

  3. Jezebelism - False prophecies, teachers and seducer of the people of God

Each of these have the same DOCTRINE, deeds, idolatry, and immorality! This spirit and system comes into full reality in the great whore of revelation 17 the mother of harlots!

This is the Evil Trinity of Evil that has manifested in the Church to destroy the church - doctrines, deeds, devils

  1. Ephesus - Apostolic church - Ended 100 AD

  2. Smyrna - Martyr church - 100-300 AD - Rome hurled 10 bloody persecutions against the church

  3. Pergamos - State church - 300 AD to 500 AD. Constantine great legalized Christianity making it state religion of Roman Empire - Invasion of paganism into church

  4. Thyatira - Papal church AD 500 - Present. Rome assumed power over church - Pope

  5. Sardis - AD 1500 - Luther - Justification of faith

  6. Philadelphia - Missionary church - AD 1800 to AD 1900s

  7. Laodicea - Present day apostate to rapture

A. The Worship of Mary

  1. The first practice that grew up after this union was the introduction of the worship of the saints, especially for the Virgin Mary.

  2. Thousands of pagans entered the Church in those times who were accustomed to worshipping the gods of towns and places, and who were not thoroughly Christianized.

  3. The veneration of saints and holy men became a form of worship.

  4. Saints were considered lesser deities, whose intercession availed with God.

  5. Places connected with the lives of holy men were considered sacred and pilgrimages were started

  6. Relics or bones of saints were believed to have miraculous power.

  7. The worship of the Virgin Mary was set up in 381 AD, three years after Damasus became head of the Babylon cult.

  8. Just as the Babylonian cult worshipped the "Queen of Heaven" and her Son did not worship the Supreme Father because He, supposedly, did not interfere with mortal affairs, so the Roman Church has a similar worship in that they worship Mary as the Mother of God and her Son.

  9. The image of mother and child was an object of worship in Babylon long before Christ.

  10. Babylon this spread to the ends of the Earth. The original mother was Semiramis, the beautiful queen of Himrod, who was a paragon of unbridled lust and licentiousness.

  11. In the "mysteries, "which she had the chief part in forming, she was worshipped as Rhea (Chronicon Paschal, Vol. 1, page 65), the great "Mother of the Gods" with such atrocious rites as identified her with Venus, the mother of all impurity.

  12. She raised Babylon, where she reigned, to eminence among the nations as the great seat of idolatry and consecrated prostitution (Hesiod, Theogonia, Vol. 36, Page 453)

  13. The apocalyptic emblem of the harlot with cup in hand was one of idolatry derived from ancient Babylon, as they were exhibitied in Greece, for thus the Greek Venus was originally represented (Herodotus, Historia, Book 1, Cap. 199, Page 92).

  14. The Roman Church has taken this as her emblem.

  15. In 1825 a medal was struck bearing the image of Pope Leo XII on one side and on the other side Rome Symbolized by a woman with across sin her left hand and a cup in her right hand and a legend around her

  16. "Sedet Super Universem"; that is, "The whole world is her seat." From this original practice, practically all nations have copied a similar worship, but in each land the same figure is carried out under different names.

  17. In Egypt the mother and child are known as Isis and Osiris; in India, Isi and Iswara;

  18. In Eastern Asia, Cybele and Deouis;

  19. In pagan Rome, Fortuna and Jupiter-puer;

  20. In Greece, Ceres or as Irene with Plutus in arms, etc.

  21. In Tibet, China, and Japan the Jesuits were surprised to find the counterpart of the Madonna (the Italian name for virgin) and her child as devoutly worshipped as in Rome itself.

  22. Shing Moo, the mother of China, is there represented with child in her arms and a glory around her exactly as if a Catholic artist had painted her.

  23. Where did these nations get this common worship if not from Babylon before the dispersion in the days of Nimrod? (Gen. 11).

  24. Thus the worship as Mary in connection with her Son is of Babylonian origin for there is no such worship prescribed in Scripture.

  25. This ALL CULMINATES IN THE GREAT WHORE OF RELIGION SEEN IN REVELATION 17

Rebellion was first organized in Babylon rebellion's final war will be waged in Babylon!

Next week: the worship of the Pope

The seven churches were chosen by the Holy Spirit! And portray the entirety of the church age.

  1. Ephesus

  2. Smyrna

  3. Pergamos

  4. Thyatira

  5. Sardis

  6. Philadelphia

  7. Laodicea
